Fundamental Banjo Skills Zoom Workshop
This one-hour workshop reviews the basics for beginners, and refreshes them for intermediates. I share the tips and tricks that tend to come up in live lessons or workshops, but that aren't always included anywhere on the Muprhy Method DVDs. Everything from warmup rolls, tuning tips, practice advice, capoing techniques, left and right hand position, pick angle, and more. This one is pretty talky--not as much playing as I usually like in a workshop. But there is a lot of useful info here.

Intermediate Jamming Zoom Workshop
This one-hour workshop includes tunes from the Murphy Method beginning and intermediate lessons including:

  • Banjo In The Hollow
  • Foggy Mountain Breakdown
  • John Hardy
  • Old Joe Clark
  • Lonesome Road Blues
  • I Saw The Light

We focus specifically on getting back into the break on Old Joe Clark and Lonesome Road Blues since those two tend to be problematic for students, and coming back around for a second time through on John Hardy.

I'm assuming that you have had at least a little jamming experience, (even if it was just the Jam Basics workshop!), so we cover slightly more advanced issues like:

  • Using the tag lick to transition into your break
  • Whether to use pinches or pickup notes after the tag
  • To capo or not to capo
  • When to vamp and when to do rolling backup
  • What do I even mean by rolling backup?
  • Improvising

Slow Slow Jam
Casey and Murphy Henry lead you through the tunes from the Murphy Method's New Beginning Banjo videos, as well as a selection of singing songs good for improvising on. (The perfect place to use those roly polys!) While playing along at home you can join in on the lead as well as the vamping. We have two banjos on the instrumentals, so you'll always have someone to play in unison with. On the singing songs we have a guitar and a banjo, so you can play lead along with the banjo during the breaks, and vamp during the singing.

Tempos for this jam are slow! Appropriate for all beginners who know the songs from New Beginning Banjo 1. We also use some of the songs on New Beginning Banjo 2, as well as easy singing songs to roly poly to.
